Ryan Murphy did a Twitter Q & A last night, Oct. 22 and answered questions about all three of his megahit shows “The New Normal,” “American Horror Story: Asylum” and “Glee.”
Fans of the multi-tasking showrunner turned up en masse to shower him with praise for his ability to generate inspiring, amazing television (for three shows at once!) and Gleeks at large were full of burning questions for post-break up couples Klaine and Brittana and beloved characters Quinn and Mercedes (Amber Riley), who we are eagerly waiting to see.
Many fans have been worried that Dianna Agron/Quinn will not be returning to the show. Murphy calmed that fear by saying that Quinn is indeed coming to town and has a new boyfriend and this causes some sort of tension for Santana (Naya Rivera).
The question was: “Does Quinn have a new boyfriend when she comes back to Lima, or will she be single?”
Murphy replied, “New boyfriend. And not a good one. Santana is very unhappy. #slapheardroundtheworld.”
Is the guy mean? Or, someone Santana used to date?
Mercedes fans also begged for her to return. Murphy said, “Watch episode 5. I love Amber so much.”
(Episode 5 will be the returning Nov. 8 “The Role You Were Born to Play”).
As for Brittana and Klaine fans, Murphy deflected a lot of mean-spirited negative comments about the split of these couples. Some tweeters went so far as to say Murphy was endorsing bullying, but he graciously did not take their bait.
In response to one outcry about cheating being the reason for the Klaine split, Murphy tweeted: “Creative choices are hard. We want these two to be real and modern and complicated.”
In regards to one fan’s distress about Blaine (Darren Criss) cheating before talking to Kurt (Chris Colfer) about his unhappiness, he said, “Honey, people have moments of weakness. And I say this with kindness.”
Gleeks certainly have reason to become invested in this beloved couple, who revolutionized TV by portraying a loving gay teenage couple in such an honest way. Many Klaine shippers are justifiably thrilled to have such a strong, inspirational role model couple.
On the flip side, many of these same shippers are devastated by the split and are very vocal about it.
Darren Criss was so concerned about the impact the break up would have on fans, that he took time to write a personal letter of reassurance and gratitude to his Facebook followers on the night before the episode aired.
Both Criss and his on-screen partner, Chris Colfer are very quick to recognize the emotional reaction within the fan base, but are glad for the dramatic, growth opportunities the split will provide for Blaine and Kurt as individual characters.
Even so, Klaine fans still would like to hold out hope for an eventual reunion. And, so far, Ryan Murphy has said nothing that would indicate that a reunion will never happen.
For now, it’s a painful bend in the road for them and a learning experience along the way to figuring out who they are as strong, beautiful and independent young men.
He offered, “There’s always hope,” in reply to questions concerning a Brittana reunion and revealed that we will find out more about Blaine’s reasons for cheating on Kurt. Plus, we’ll eventually see Eli and calm down – he looks nothing like Kurt!
As for Kurt, Murphy promised more Vogue.com and Sarah Jessica Parker adventures and a solo number that Chris Colfer chose the song for.
In other “Glee” music news, it looks like Sectionals is going to include another One Direction cover and “Glee Project” season 2 winner Blake Jenner will be doing a duet with Cory Monteith.
“Glee” returns Thursday, November 8, 2012 in Flint on WSMH FOX66 at 9 PM EST.
