Genealogical and historical events to be held in and around metro Atlanta during October 2012:
October is Georgia Archives Month for updated information on the Georgia Archives closing see the Friends of the Georgia Archives and History website and the Georgia Genealogical Society website.
3 October – “Save Our Georgia Archives” and “Save the Seven” rally is planned at the state capita. Meet downtown Atlanta at noon.
7 October – “Help! I need help!” Bring your research question. This is a group workshop. Everyone is welcome from beginners to advanced researchers. Come with your questions; expect an answer. Our Genealogy Group meets monthly at Clayton State University, 2000 Clayton State Blvd, Morrow, GA 30260. The meetings are held in the library, L200 from 3-5 p.m.
8 October – “Doing the Dawes: Locating Ancestors on the Final Rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes” will be the webinar presented by Kathy Huber. The Friends of the National Archives Southeast Region sponsors free webinars monthly on the second Monday at 7 p.m. Register at the Friends website.
12 October – “The Kenan Research Center: Exploring the Archives of the Atlanta History Center” will be presented by Sue VerHoef, Archivist, Atlanta History Center. 12 October – “Sitting Up With the Dead” a genealogist’s dream will be held at the Gainesville Library, 127 Main St NW, Gainesville, GA 30501. Registered participants will be locked in the library until midnight. Registration call 770-532-3311 ext 116.

15 October – “Genealogy via smart phones and tablets” will be the topic presented by Monica Hopkins. The Genealogy study group program wil be held at the Northlake-Barbara Loar Library, 3772 LaVista Rd, Tucker, GA 30084. The meeting starts at 10:15a.m.
15 October – “Blank or prize: What You Need to Know about Georgia’s Land Lotteries” will be the webinar presented by Linda Woodward Geiger, CG, CGL. The Georgia Genealogical Society sponsors the webinar at 8 p.m. Register at the GGS website,
