He may be best known for his very-rocking remake of “Flowers on the Wall,” but unlike a flower – Eric Heatherly’s style has never been watered down. His growth as an artist is taking even deeper root with his latest full-bloom of a band formation he’s fronting called (no kidding) “The Goats of Kudzu.” And tonight they’ll make a very heated entry to the Country Music Hall of Fame…almost. Keep reading for those details.
Self-described as a roots country-blues/rock band, this new project finds him and the Goats “horn”ing in on fields of classic country hit material, but with an all-new vintage kick to it. Vine-ripened music, you might say. One such example is the take on “Tulsa Time,” a video clip of which is included to the side of this article. Plus, even on the production side of things the ‘Kudzu’ kid can’t leaf…er leave things alone: he’s produced and co-penned current single “Porch People” by the band Borrowed Blue, who just like a front porch swing are really coming in swinging at radio. In fact, according to Heatherly, the tune has taken a jump of 41 spots this weeks. They plan to start recording the full album, also produced by Heatherly, in late November.
But back to the star subject at hand – Heatherly has proven he can grow in yet more directions, with his musical mixture actually having recently planted itself in both The Smoke House (in Monteagle, TN) and (almost) The White House with a performance alongside a D.C. fashion show in a Smithsonian museum. After all, it’s not just any goat who gets to visit a catwalk. And rumor is Heatherly and his herd of “Goats” may just be looking to kickstart a recorded project of their own in the coming weeks/months, so keep those ears open and get ready to hoof it if the opportunity to help back said project presents itself.
Tonight, you can witness the Nashville debut of “Kudzu.” They’ll headline the Southern Music City Hot Wing Festival at downtown’s Hall of Fame Park at about 6:15. And expect more than the food to get a little greasy – get ready for southern grooves and greasy, slide guitar with rockin’ drums and soulful lyrics. Plus, Heatherly will also perform his new radio hit, “Porch People.” Tickets are $10.
There will be plenty of available general seating areas around each of the two performance stages at the kid-friendly festival, but maybe bring along portable lawn chairs or blankets since there will be few (if any) actual “seats.” The charity event will be held for the second consecutive year at the Walk of Fame Park which is located just in front of the Country Music Hall of Fame (and behind the Hilton Hotel). With cooking teams from near and far vying to take home the $1,000 Grand Prize and “Music City’s Best Wings-2012” bragging rights, there will be no shortage of mouth-watering wings for patrons to sample throughout the day. For a small donation ($1 is suggested), hot wing connoisseurs can taste-test entries from each team while demonstrating support for a good cause. All proceeds from the Fest will benefit the Ronald McDonald Charities House of Nashville.

His independent record The Lower East Side of Life, by the way, spawned several global singles in 19 European territories.
“You know I will find a way to make this thing happen…one way or another,” hints Heatherly.
