K-9 friends – Friends of Douglas County K-9 will hold the second annual Howling Good Time at 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at Cielo at Castle Pines Event Center, 482 W. Happy Canyon Road, Castle Rock. Festivities include live and silent auctions and a dinner emceed by comedian Sam Adams.
Besides raising funds, the event will celebrate the retirement of Borris, a Belgian Malinois who has been a member of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department K-9 team since 2005. Funds will be used to replace him.

Pizza for cats – Virgilio’s Pizzeria & Wine Bar in Littleton is donating a percentage of its receipts for the month of October to Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue, a no-kill shelter for cats in Denver.
The shelter, located at 2390 S. Delaware St., needs a copy of your receipt in order to get the donation, so save itemized receipts from the restaurant and mail, fax, or bring them to the shelter.
Virgilio’s is located at 10025 W San Juan Way.
Pet first aid – A pet first aid and CPR training class will be held Saturday, Oct. 6 (1-5:30 p.m.) at Foothills Animal Shelter, 580 McIntyre St., Golden.
Attendees can learn canine and feline CPR, rescue breathing, injury and wellness assessment, seizure, choking and injury management, emergency preparedness and more.
Cost is $89 per person. This includes class instruction, pet first aid handbook and a certificate of completion.

Adoption fair – South Suburban Ice Arena in Centennial will host an animal fair this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. featuring animals from the Denver Municipal Animal Shelter.
Dogs and cats will be immediately available for adoption.
Adoption fees include neutering, vaccinations and pet license, and range from $60 to $150 based upon breed and age.
Animal memorial – Morris Animal Foundation is offering a new “In Loving Memory” online memorial photo gallery. For a donation of $50 or more, users can upload an image and add a personalized sentiment.
Tributes ill appear in the “In Loving Memory” gallery within one week of donating and will remain there for a minimum of six months. Donations support animal health studies to advance animal care. Information
