Although casting for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie may still be in the distant future, progress on the hotly anticipated film adaptation is certainly in the works right now.
In latest “50 Shades” news, bestselling author EL James was seen this weekend in Seattle, Washington, though the down-to-earth writer of the inner goddess isn’t one to make her presence overtly known aside from her novel tour. As “Books and Review” notes this Tuesday, whether this weekend trip was just a casual vacation away or something more serious remains to be seen.
Yet as no doubt many fellow fans can speculate, this could be a positive sign that these frequent visits—this certainly isn’t the first—may suggest the “Fifty Shades of Grey” film might be shot on location right here in the U.S.
This week, EL James continues her book tour on her erotic novel trilogy that swept female audiences of the world away, starting with “50 Shades of Grey” and moving on to its two popular sequels, “50 Shades Darker” and “50 Shades Freed.” (Though a fourth book is rumored to possibly be in the works, possibly from Christian Grey’s perspective).
The gifted author has been traveling across the U.S. for book signings and guest features, having visited Portland, Oregon, already this month. As fans of the raunchy and surprisingly complex series can attest, several scenes from the book take place here, including some of Christian Grey’s and Anastasia Steele’s sexual exploits at the Heathman Hotel.
Speaking of hotels, quite a few weekend getaways are picking up on the phenomenon as well. Already several hotels in Seattle and Portland alike have created special “Fifty Shades of Grey” hotel specials, complete with a helicopter ride, bottle of wine, and sensual dinner/overnight stay for two. (Christian Grey, unfortunately, is not included.)
Much of the plot of the novel and its sequels occur in Seattle, and for expectant fans of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, what’s stopping the film from taking place right here? Aside from the casting rumors, it is known that confirmed movie producers Dana Brunetti and Michael De Luca are looking for a screenwriter(s).
James has done the privilege of showing fans via her Twitter page several photos of the locations that Christian and Ana have visited together, including pictures of the Escala Penthouse.
James didn’t release too many details on casting for the film during her talk show appearance with Katie Couric, though Couric’s casting poll on Facebook had Ian Somerhalder win for Christian Grey’s part, while Alexis Bledel won for playing Anastasia Steele.
Yet these certainly aren’t the only options. As for the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie, EL James had only this to mention:
“It’s a group effort, but there’s a studio and production company [in place]. There’s two producers, at some point soon there’s going to be a director. I’m sure everyone will have some input on that … And I think I have three people who could fit [to play] Christian … and about four who could play. And I’m not going to tell you any of them,” she laughed.
Come on, EL! Hopefully the wait won’t be too much longer.
Would you like to see the “50 Shades” film be shot here in the U.S. on location in both Seattle and Portland? It does make sense, though EL James may want her bestselling book’s adaptation a little closer to home. Where else might you consider Christian Grey and Ana Steele meet in the adaptation?
