The Green Bay Packers reported on Sept. 29 that running back James Starks is healthy again, but they don’t plan on bringing him back up yet and will stick with Cedric Benson. Here is what you need to know about the Packers vs. Saints game for fantasy football in Week 4.
Green Bay Packers
Aaron Rodgers – Aaron Rodgers had an entire week to recover from the beating he took at the hands of the Seattle defense and the anger that the entire team felt at the poor ending to the game. Against the Saints, Rodgers will want revenge and you should expect 300 yards and multiple touchdowns from the quarterback.
Cedric Benson – Cedric Benson finally made it into the end zone in Week 3 but his best game was an 81 yard performance in Week 2 and he never hit 50 yards in the other two games. The Saints have a horrible defense, especially against the run, so if Benson has a breakout week, this is it. If he fails to impress this week, he isn’t worth owning.
Greg Jennings/Jordy Nelson – Greg Jennings returned from an injury in Week 3 and finished with six receptions for 35 yards. He also has failed to get into the end zone this year. Expect that to change this week, and against the Saints’ defense, he should be a quality starting receiver. Jordy Nelson also might be a good start, but don’t expect more than the numbers of a No. 3 receiver for fantasy purposes.
Jermichael Finley – Jermichael Finley had a touchdown in Week 1 and then followed it up with back-to-back weeks of four catch games. He is not playing as well as his fantasy owners are used to, although he is tied for fifth among tight ends with 15 receptions. He remains a low-key starter in most leagues.
New Orleans Saints
Drew Brees – The Saints have not won a game yet, and Drew Brees will start doing everything in his power to change that. He has 904 passing yards, with two 300-yard games, as well as seven touchdowns and five interceptions. Green Bay has the best passing defense in the NFL, but Brees will want to shoot it out with Aaron Rodgers and should be started anyway.
Pierre Thomas/Darren Sproles/Mark Ingram – This is a three-headed beast that makes most team’s running back tandems worthless in fantasy football. Darren Sproles is the only one worth consistently starting, especially in PPR leagues. He only has 62 yards rushing but also has 18 receptions for 163 yards and a touchdown through the air. Pierre Thomas is the man to start in yardage leagues, but is not anything better than a flex player. Ingram should remain on all benches.
Marques Colston/Devery Henderson/Lance Moore – Colston is off to a bad start this season, with only ten receptions for 160 yards in three games. Lance Moore has only two more receptions but has found the end zone twice. Devery Henderson is too inconsistent to start at all. Against the Packers, bench all three men because Brees will be looking for whoever is open and no one will be favored at all.
Jimmy Graham – Outside of Darren Sproles, Jimmy Graham is the only real threat on this offense as a receiver. He has 17 receptions for 172 yards and a touchdown in every game this season. Expect that to continue as Graham is arguable the best tight end in fantasy football this week.
