The Fall Festival has been L.A.’s favorite county fair in the city since 1934. Celebrate the harvest at the free, two-day Fall Festival, starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2012 and lasting until 8 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at the Original Farmers Market.
On Saturday, Jazz’N Banjos will be playing live music on the East Patio from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The Miner 49ers band hits the Plaza at noon and 1:30 p.m. Fiddlin’ Dan & His Banjo Buddy will be strolling around the event from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Big River – Johnny Cash tribute – flows on the West Patio from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite Boys land on the Plaza from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Merle Jagger closes down the evening on the West Patio from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Kids can check out the Great American Petting Zoo and “Agventure Land” on both Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Other activities include: Kit’s Tree House Workshop with American Girl Place (noon – 3 p.m. Saturday on the Plaza), a leather carving demonstration (noon – 5 p.m. Saturday on the Plaza), a Harvest Knot workshop (noon – 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on the Plaza), carnival games (1 p.m. – 6 p.m. both days on Gilmore Lane), a Cow Bop (2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Saturday on the East Plaza), the world-famous pie eating contest (3 p.m. both days on the Plaza), the Joey Dillon Gunslinger show (noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Sunday on the Plaza), cowboy/cowgirl crafts (noon – 3 p.m. Sunday on the Plaza), and Gene the Pumpkin Carver (noon to 5 p.m. Sunday on the Plaza).
Stop by Gilmore Lane to have your picture taken with the World’s Largest Potato on Wheels. The giant tater – 28 feet long, 12 feet wide, 11 feet tall and weighing more than 6 tons – has been touring the country in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Idaho Potato Commission. Pick up your own free Idaho Potato while supplies last.
On Sunday, the SFV Banjo Band kicks off the live music from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. on the East Patio. The Silver Mountain String Band strums on the East Patio from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Grant Langston & The Supermodels hit the West Patio music runway from 3-5 p.m. Swoon over the Hi-Lo Playboys on the Plaza from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Shutting down the event on Sunday are the Doo-Wah Riders on the West Patio from 6-8 p.m.
