Fans of Emily and Jef from “The Bachelorette” have been following along as the “Team Jem Project” accomplishes amazing things. What started as a fan initiative to raise enough money for one well in honor of Emily Maynard, Jef Holm and Ricki Hendrick just two weeks ago hit an unbelievable milestone Monday, Sept. 17.
Tuesday, Sept. 4 a small group of Emily and Jef fans began the “Team Jem Project.” The idea was to do it as a wedding present for Emily Maynard and Jef Holm, who got engaged in “The Bachelorette” finale this spring. The two have indicated they are aiming for a spring 2013 wedding, and the fans thought maybe they could generate enough buzz in the next six months to raise $4,000, the amount needed for one well.
The buzz did a lot more than anybody anticipated. The first well was funded within a day, and a second well was funded almost immediately after that. The goal was raised to five wells, and that happened Monday afternoon. Not even two weeks into the effort the “Team Jem Project” has raised just over $20,000. The group has shared that they will keep upping the ante as long as people are interested in donating, and participants cannot wait to see what the group can achieve in six months.
Friday, Generosity Water (the charity partner to Jef Holm’s bottled water company People Water) sent out an email to those who had donated filling them in on the plans for the wells. The funds will be used in the Metu Woreda, Ethiopian community. Generosity Water shares that “Metu is a market town in the western part of the Oromia region where it is estimated that only 18% of the population has access to clean drinking water.”
There are nearly 5,000 residents in this area, and they will have access to clean water next year thanks to the generosity of “The Bachelorette” fans. The wells should be completed in 6-9 months and those who have been a part of the project will get updates and pictures once the wells are in place.
Over 1,500 donations have been made so far and the amounts range from $1 to over $1,000. Emily Maynard and Jef Holm didn’t know about the “Team Jem Project” until after it was already in place, but they have been thrilled with the response.

Just how much can “Team Jem” fans accomplish as a response to the love story they watched unfold this past season on “The Bachelorette”? How many wells will be built in honor of Emily, Jef and Ricki by the time they do get married? Nobody would have ever guessed that there would be enough support to fund five wells and now that that goal has been met, many would say the sky is the limit.
