MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, will be the site for one of the most intense rivalries in football, as the (3-3) Miami Dolphins and (3-4) New York Jets meet for the second time this 2012 NFL season.
Opening kickoff for this AFC East affair is slated for Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. EST and it’ll be broadcast live on CBS Sports.
According to NFL week 8 spreads, the hosting Jets remain the betting favorites at -2 over the Fins, who will have a +2-point cushion.
NFL week 8 odds makers are also expecting points to be at a bit of a premium in this intradivisional matchup, evidenced by the fact that the OVER/UNDER is set at a combined total of 39 points.
It’s certainly worth noting that Vegas had a little bit of trouble keeping a steady hand with this one. When the opening betting lines were announced earlier this week, -3½ points favored the Jets over Miami.
However, with all the action moving in the Dolphins’ favor, oddsmakers had no choice but to adjust their numbers, bringing them down from -3½ to a even -2 points.
This is great news for Jets fans who hope their team can bounce back after last week’s overtime loss to New England. As bad as the season has gone, New York is one win away from getting right back into AFC East contention.
But the most recent line movement is particularly beneficiary for bettors, as the J-E-T-S are one of my favorite NFL picks for this week.
Contrary to popular belief, the Jets have proven to be a very profitable return-on-investment team and love playing football (against the spread) this time of year.
Despite their 3-3 record on the season, New York is 5-2-0 ATS in 2012, including an eye-popping 4-0 mark in games following a straight up win.
Furthermore, Gang Green is also undefeated in its last five ATS October matchups and carries an impressive four-game ATS win streak against the American Football Conference — Yes, that does include last week’s loss to the Patriots, in which NY was given a huge cushion of 10½ points.
But that’s not all, as the good news just keep on coming for Jets aficionados and Vegas residents looking for a winning wager.
In addition to the aforementioned ATS stats, NY is also 4-1 in its last 5 games on fieldturf and 4-1 overall, as well as very respectable 5-2 mark in its last 7 games after allowing more than 350 total yards.
In short, the Jets with a -2-point spread at home against Miami is a steal in my book! Maybe now that Mark Sanchez is not dating Eva Longoria, he can get back to wining football games!
I would bet that No.6 will be a key contributor this week, as the Jets will steam past the Dolphins on the strength of an all-around effort that includes winning the turnover and special teams battle.
