The following article is part of an ongoing effort to help homeless dogs in and around Toronto/Hamilton area find suitable and loving homes. Currently, the need is great but the homes are few. Your help is desperately needed.
Ugly Mutts Ontario Humane Dog Rescue located in Hamilton, Ontario recently took in Shih Tzu mix brothers named Jake and Peanut.
Peanut will be 3 years old in December and Jake is a year older. While Peanut is a miniature Shih Tzu, Jake is part Shih Tzu and part Japanese Chin. They have been raised together and enjoy doing everything together. According to Ugly Mutts’ staff, “It would be a shame to separate them at this point as they are truly bonded. With these two little guys, you are just bound to get twice as much love!”
Jake and Peanut seem to be adjusting well to their new temporary home,” said their foster parent. “The first night was a long night as Jake whined for most of the night when I put them in the crate for bed time. Peanut was fine and I didn’t hear a peep out of him. Jake is definitely the vocal (and stubborn) one of the two and does most of the barking… They really only bark when someone comes to the door more so out of being excited to see people. They want to jump up to greet people but we are working on that…”
Now the two boys are allowed into the bed and curl up together to sleep through the night. They also have free reign of the house during the day when their foster parent is working. There have been no accidents or destructive behaviors during these times.
Jake and Peanut are housetrained and know to do their business outside. They love the outdoors and like to explore the yard. They also get along well with the neighbors’ dogs. They are a friendly duo and like meeting new people too. Jake pretty much ignores a cat in the home while Peanut wants to play with it. However, he will stop when asked so a permanent home with a cat should be fine.
This lively pair love to go for walks and even walk side by side, never venturing too far from each other. They also like going for rides in the car.
Both dogs are neutered and up-to-date on their routine shots.
If you think these two cuties would be a good addition to your home, go to Ugly Mutts and submit an application for consideration. You will find an adoption form HERE. Send the application to firstname.lastname@example.org and put ‘Pet Inquiry: Jake and Peanut ID 012-0908/09’ in the subject line.
