ABC’s pop culture reality giant “Dancing With The Stars” returned tonight with the season’s latest results show. While this year’s it’s been all all-stars that doesn’t mean it easier to say goodbye to some of the show’s favorite performers. Tonight the Emmy winning series held its first double-elimination episode of the season and the results were shocking to say the least. So who moved on and who went home? Here’s how the night went down.
Entering the night Melissa Rycroft and original winner Kelly Monaco topped the leaderboard with 27 out of 30 possible points, while Bristol Palin and her partner Mark Ballas tumbled to the bottom with 22.5 points. Yet each week we’ve seen a few surprises in the rankings when America’s votes are factored in!
After getting the night started with an encore of Derek Hough and Shawn Johnson’s quickstep from last night’s show it was time to get down to business as the first four couples took their marks at center stage. Melissa Rycroft (with partner Tony Dovolani), Gilles Marini (with partner Peta Murgatroyd), Kirstie Alley (with partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy) and Emmit Smith (with partner Cheryl Burke) were all front and center as hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke Charvet revealed everyone was safe except for Kirstie and Maks who started the night in jeopardy.
Before the next round of results former contestant (and all-star fan vote nominee) Kyle Massey returned to the ballroom with one-time partner Lacey Schwimmer for a dance number with the “DWTS” troupe and special guest Frankie Moreno that got the audience on their feet. However things quieted down fast as the next four couples prepared to hear their fates.
Shawn Johnson (with partner Derek Hough), Apolo Anton Ohno (with partner Karina Smirnoff), Drew Lachey (with partner Anna Trebunskaya) and Kelly Monaco (with partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy) gathered at the center of the ballroom as again three of the four were named safe, leaving Drew and Anna as the odd couple out. Unfortunately they were also the first couple out of the competition as Kirstie and Maks finished with a higher total, meaning Lachey becomes the first of the returning winners to be eliminated.
Following a performance by the duo Karmin the remaining final three couples took the stage to hear which of them have danced their final dance this season. Of Helio Castroneves and Chelsie Hightower, Sabrina Bryan and Louis van Amstel and Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas, the second eliminated star was yet another former champion as fifth season winner Helio Castroneves was surprisingly revealed to have polled the lowest.
That’s a wrap for tonight, but make sure to tune back in next Monday night at 8 p.m. EST for the next round of competition, which will feature guest judge Paula Abdul.
