The sixth week of “Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” looked like a hoedown on steroids as the stars performed a style of dance they had never performed to a country music hit. The show, which aired Monday, October 29, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., also featured performances by country music stars Little Big Town, Big and Rich and Cowboy Troy.
The stars had to incorporate a short solo bit in the heir country dance. In addition, the couples had to perform a country group number together. The couple selected as best from the group number would receive a bonus of 2 points.
In what was a phenomenal night of dancing, both Apolo Ohno and Sabrina Bryan earned perfect scores of 30 for their country routines. Sabrina and partner Louie VanAmstel did a rumba to “Wanted” by Hunter Hayes that allowed Sabrina to show her vulnerability. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba hugged her and then Judge Bruno Tonioli hugged Judge Len Goodman in playful support. She earned a 30 for the evening. Watch the routine in the video on the left.
Apolo and partner Karina Smirnov, we learned had a fight last Monday before performing which led to what the judges called a “lack of chemistry.” Their Viennese Waltz had them in perfect harmony as they glided around the floor to Rascal Flatt’s “Sarabeth.” The number earned a perfect 30. You can watch it here.
A close second were Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani who also performed a Viennese Waltz to Jana Kramer’s “Why Ya Wanna.” In spite of a serious neck injury last week, Melissa held her frame and earned a standing ovation from Len as well as a 29.5 score from the judges.
Three couples tied for third place for the evening, each with a score of 27.5. Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd did a Cha Cha to Shania Twain’s “I Feel Like a Woman.” Shawn and Derek also did a Cha Cha but to Kenny Chesney’s “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy.” Kirstie Alley and Maks Chmerkovskiy did a rumba to Blake Shelton’s “I Wanna Go Home.” Could that be an omen?
Near the bottom of the leader board was Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy with a Tango to Carrie Underwood’s “Good Girl.” They scored a 27. Football star Emmitt Smith and partner Cheryl Burke brought up the caboose with a Foxtrot to the Dolly Parton-Kenny Rogers duet “Islands in the Stream.” Their number earned a 26.5.
The country group number was a bit of train wreck but several couples stood out as more polished and entertaining than the others. Kirstie won the bonus points for her solo bit which included giving Maks a spanking. Watch it here.
