“Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars” week 4 featured a slew of seldom or never-before-seen-on-the-show dances putting the celebrities and professionals on edge. The show, which aired Monday, October 15, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., really tested the competitors. Contestants Gilles Marini and Shawn Johnson tied at the top of the leader board, each with scores of 39.5 out 40 points.
Last week, fellow competitors picked the style of dance another competitor would have to perform this week. Each couple was given 10 seconds to make a decision and some of the selections caused panic, stress and tension.
Gilles was assigned “Bollywood” by Bristol Palin. His professional partner, Peta Murgatroyd had absolutely no experience with this style of dance. During the rehearsal clip, she was seen in tears because the dance was just not coming together. Gilles was heard to say they were 48 hours from show time and still had no idea what they were doing.
They must have figured it out quickly because Gilles earned his first three tens of the season with a performance that was energetic, culturally magnificent and as head judge Len Good man said, “Hotter than curry.” Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said “Aladdin has nothing on you!” Check out the amazing routine in the video above.
Olympic Gymnast Shawn Johnson, who was a close second last week because she and partner Derek Hough chose to put illegal lifts in their routine, tied with Gilles and Peta with 39.5 out of 40 points. Preforming the Mambo that Helio Catroneves assigned her before being booted last week, Shawn danced to her strengths. Amazing choreography by Derek filled the routine with unimaginable lifts and trick moves that brought gown the house.
Guest judge Paula Abdul had little impact on the proceedings other than adding an extra paddle which frequently mirrored that of the regular judges.
The remaining contestants ranked as follows:
- Kelly Monaco and Valentine Chmerkovskiy – Contemporary – 37.5
- Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani – Jitterbug – 37
- Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke – Bolero – 36
- Sabrina Bryan and Louie Van Amstel – Disco – 35.5
- Apolo Ohno and Karina Smirnov – Hip Hop – 34.5
- Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas – Rock and Roll – 32
- Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Charleston – 30
