On Monday’s taping of ABC’s “The View,” President Obama said he was just “eye candy” after Barbara Walters kidded Michelle Obama about bringing him as her “date,” Reuters reported.
“I’ve been told I’m just eye candy here,” he said.
The program is set to air on Tuesday, Reuters added, noting that it “marks the first time the Obamas have appeared together on the one-hour show, which features four female hosts, including Hollywood icon Whoopi Goldberg, and is popular with middle-income women voters.”
A post at Twitchy called his statement “false” and “sexist,” and observed that conservatives on Twitter expressed their disgust.
“Hint… anyone is eye-candy sitting next to Joy (Behar) and Whoopi,” tweeted one person.
“Full of c**p, or full of himself?” another asked.
“I could be wrong, but I’m beginning to suspect Barack Obama likes himself a whole heck of a lot,” blogger Ace of Spades added.
“If Obama is what we consider ‘eye candy’ these days, I’d like to go blind,” said another.
Twitter was not the only place where people expressed disgust with Obama’s remark.
“I cannot wait to get some Class in the White House, (sic)” one person commented at Reuters.
“Obama has no time to meet with his national security advisers or with Netanyahu but has time to campaign in Vegas, meet with rappers and Hollywood actors, show up on Letterman, and now show up with one of the most numskull shows on TV. What a worthless narcissist, (sic)” wrote another.
At the time of this writing, all 58 comments on the Reuters article took the President to task for the comment.
“This man is not a President, he is a disgrace and a joke to the world,” one person wrote at Politico.
“He is stomach gas to me,” another said.
One commenter called the anti-Obama remarks racist and hateful.
“This is the President of the United States you’re talking about! Some of your ‘[w]hite trash’ talk makes me ashamed, but it mainly makes me sad and sick to my stomach,” he wrote, prompting another person to quote Teddy Roosevelt.
“Patriotism means to stand by the country. It does not mean to stand by the president or any other public official…”
