Syndicated conservative columnists Arnold Ahlert and Burt Prelutsky choose to write abstract and fantasy columns as a distraction instead of reporting on the diminishing reality of Mitt Romney as president. That is o.k. if that’s what they choose but they’re only preaching to the choir because key demographic groups have turned a deaf ear. Their latest conservative articles indicate their hearts aren’t in it, the equivalent of a lazy conversation on how many angels can dance on a pin.
Ahlert’s column titled: “How Obama & Allies Are Suppressing News of Economic Disaster Ahead” published Sept. 29, in the Patriot Post and other conservative bastions, provides a good example. The piece is composed of ten paragraphs connecting dozens of unsupported claims, half truths false accusations and highly unlikely conspiracies. The upshot is that terrible, awful things are in store if Mitt Romney is not elected.
Ahlert’s lengthy essay accuses “the liberal media” and various government organs such as the Labor Department of hiding and disclosing information based on potential political impact. Ahlert also accuses the European Union of similar conspiracies designed to assure an Obama victory in November. There is no accompanying proof or supporting evidence in the column.
Burt Prelutsky’s column titled: The Lesson Obama Was Sent To Teach Us”, assures us that President Obama was approved by God as punishment for hip hop music: “By allowing Barack Hussein Obama to be elected president and commander-in-chief, He was reminding us poor deluded mortals that when we choose someone because he looks and sounds like someone born to be the D.J. at a hip-hop club, we’re just asking for trouble.”
Nero fiddled, the Titanic orchestra played on and Republicans continue to distract themselves from Mitt’s coming disaster, with unsupported fantasies and dark, extremely improbable conspiracy theories involving God.
Remember “death squads” ? According to the wisdom of conservatives parroting from their echo chamber, death squads were the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act means to control costs by denying treatment to seniors.
Conservatives hoped senior citizens would be frightened into believing the lurid falsehoods and therefore vote against president Obama this November. Mitt Romney and his fellow Republicans have lost credibility with their key demographics. Their dim hopes of rising to power darken rather than illuminate, just like their cynical conspiracy theories.
On Sept. 28, 2012 a new (CBS News) story written by Dean Reynolds shows Mitt Romney losing seniors in droves. With 38 days to the election Mitt Romney is even losing the trust of seniors who usually favor Republicans.
The reason? Seniors are most afraid of what a President Romney will do to Medicare. That indicates a lack of trust for Governor Romney if not a vote of confidence for Obama.
A new Washington Post poll has the President up in Florida. Florida seniors represent of one third of the voting population. In that important group President Obama leads by four points 51 percent to 47 percent. In Virginia and in Ohio Romney lags behind by 8 points, 52 percent to 44 percent.
If the election were held today President Obama would win a second term 350 Electoral College Votes to 186 for Governor Romney.
