On Tuesday, September 18, the Coalition for More Jobs, Better Schools and A Stronger Economy held a press conference and coalition meeting to kickoff their campaign supporting the slot machine referendum that will be on the November 6, 2012 General Election ballot.
The press conference began at 11:00 a.m. with Coalition Chairman Mike Jones introducing the slot machines referendum and the benefits of voting yes to authorize slot machines.
“Voting yes to allow slot machines at the Palm Beach Kennel Club will help Palm Beach County in several ways by preserving and creating jobs for local residents, collecting revenues that will be dedicated to help fund public education, creating additional tax revenues the county can use to fund vital services and allowing local businesses to remain competitive in the tourism and entertainment industry. The market clearly shows a demand for slot machines and we strongly believe the benefits should stay here in Palm Beach County. We encourage all residents to learn more about this issue and to vote yes for slot machines on Tuesday, November 6,” Mike Jones stated.
The press conference also included a speaker from the Kennel Club who talked about the role the Kennel Club played in the local economy from donations to charities and scholarships and the $100 million economic impact on the local economy the Kennel Club had. Also, a local business vendor spoke about how his company relied on the continued success and business of the Kennel Club.
“The Palm Beach Kennel Club is a local family owned business that has been in operation for over 80 years. In order to stay competitive with other racetracks and casinos in Broward and Miami Dade County, the Kennel Club needs to be able to provide the products and services consumers want. Palm Beach County residents and tourists are leaving our county to play slot machines at competing race tracks and casinos taking revenues and jobs away from our community. By allowing slot machines in Palm Beach County, the Kennel Club will be able to remain competitive and continue to provide local jobs for employees and vendors that rely on their continued success,” Mike Jones continued.
If voters authorize slot machines in Palm Beach County on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, the Palm Beach Kennel Club is the only location where slot machines will be allowed to operate.
The Coalition for More Jobs, Better Schools and A Stronger Economy is a countywide group of community, business, civic and political organizations and leaders who are working together to support the slot machines referendum on the November 2012 ballot.
