Club Passim, 47 Palmer Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has two chances to watch an Ohio based husband and wife multi-instrumentalist team called ‘Over the Rhine,’ a trilogy of talented singer-songstresses, a musician paying tribute to the grandfather of jazz violinists, and a chance to support musicians that have damaged or lost voices! All that and more will be presented at Passim from Sunday, September 30 through Friday, October 5!
On Sunday, September 30, Sean Staples and Club Passim will host the event at Club Passim called, “An Evening Celebrating the Human Voice” at 7 p.m. The evening features several musical guests to benefit the Voice Health Institute, an organization that supports doctors and researchers working to repair lost and damaged voices. Dr. Steven Zeitel is a surgical innovator responsible for restoring voices to Adele, Cher, Julie Andrews, Steven Tyler, Lionel Richie, Christina Perri and many more! He will give a brief presentation at the benefit. Local rock and roll musician Sarah Borges, award-winning roots musician Dennis Brennan who just released his new CD, ‘Engagement,’ Massachusetts native singer-songwriter Kris Delmhorst, and award-winning folk musician Lori McKenna are among the long list of entertainment slated for the evening.
Jazz violinist Jason Anick is dedicating an afternoon to pay tribute to Stephane Grappelli, a man who has been dubbed, “the grandfather of jazz violinists.” Grappelli recorded with a wide array of musicians including Duke Ellington and Paul Simon. Jason Anick’s latest CD is called, ‘Speechless.’ Jason will conduct an improvisational workshop called ‘Swinging like Grappelli: A Jazz Violin Workshop’ to help student brush up on their improvisation skills using Grapelli’s music on Sunday, September 30 at 1 p.m. Jason Anick will also perform at Club Passim on Monday, October 1 at 8 p.m.
‘Over the Rhine’ is a husband and wife band and they are both multi-instrumentalists. They have performed with the Cowboy Junkies, Ani Difranco, and Bob Dylan to name a few. Their latest CD, ‘The Long Surrender,’ has been released and they will perform an acoustic set on Tuesday, October 2 at 7 p.m.
A trilogy of singer-songstresses will make their way to Club Passim on Wednesday, October 3 at 8 p.m. Mississippi native Garrison Starr has toured with the famous Lilith Fair and her latest CD is called, ‘Not for Nothing.’
Singer-songwriter Maia Sharp has collaborated with country and pop musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and Cher. She can be heard on her latest CD, ‘Echo.’
Her music with the quartet, ‘The Rescues’ has lead to songs featured on the hit TV shows ‘One Tree Hill’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy!’ Acoustic indie Singer-songwriter Adrianne Gonzalez has performed all over the world and catch her on the CD, ‘Jazz and Wine.’
The Forge and Mariel Vandersteel are sure to be a stunning combination when they perform at Club Passim on Thursday, October 4 at 8 p.m. The Forge is an Irish group made up of harpist Maeve Gilchrist, Fiddler Cara Frankowitz, flutist Nicole Rabata, and Irish frame drummist Anna Colliton. Their lovely and powerful sound blends beautifully in contemporary and Irish tradition. Marial Vandersteel’s debut CD is called ‘Hickory.’
Folk singer-songwriter David Mallett will hit Club Passim’s stage on Friday, October 5 at 7 p.m. Not only has he been in the music business for over 40 years, but he has written songs for John Denver, The Muppets, Alison Kraus, Pete Seeger, and Emmylou Harris.
