Marvel Studios is not taking their success with The Avengers lightly. Instead of taking time off to bask, Creative Director Kevin Feige and new consultant Joss Whedon have jumped into Phase Two: Iron Man 3 is just about finished up principle photography, while Thor: The Dark World is currently filming.
Next on the agenda is Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Chris Evans has given some details about the story line and possible scenes in the upcoming film.
Evans revealed that some of the cut scenes from The Avengers will be shown and further explored in The Winter Soldier.
“…they had all those deleted scenes with The Avengers because a lot of those scenes are for Captain 2, you know what I mean?” Evans explained in an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival while promoting his film The Iceman. “It was good stuff, but it all felt like that was his story. It is a different movie. With The Avengers there was so much to cram in. Like I said, it was a long movie anyway. So I think making it any longer would have just been exhausting.”
Just in case…***SPOILER ALERT***
Captain 2 is going to introduce, of course, The Winter Solider. For those who are familiar with the comics, The Winter Soldier is Steve Rogers’ thought-to-be fallen best friend James “Bucky” Barnes (Sebastian Stan), who is found brainwashed and now a Russian assassin.
***END SPOILER ALERT***
Marvel announced they locked in many of their cast members in for multiple films. Evans himself has been contracted for six films, and has talked about the possibility of making a cameo in The Dark World.
“[Chris] Hemsworth and I even talked about that. I would love to do a little thing in Thor 2.” Evans said. “It is obviously going to be tricky trying to work out the plot, the reason why I am not there to help him, and why he is not there to help me. But the best thing about Marvel is that, like I said, the movies were so good and we had such a good time making them.”
Obviously there is no way to know for certain now of any cameos being made, but, given the nature of the Marvel universe as it stands now (i.e., Tony Stark/Howard Stark’s influence in every movie since Iron Man; Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) being in the majority of the Marvel movies), it wouldn’t be surprising we start seeing other Avengers characters making appearance in the solo movies.
