There is a full slate of events this week on Chicago’s pet scene – from a traveling adoption event to behavioral training to Diamonds in the Ruff and a neighborhood event in Andersonville. Check out some of the activities below.
Sunday, September 30 – Saturday, October 6
Join the South Suburban Humane Society for multi-community adoption event – Around Chicagoland in Eight Days. From Sunday until Saturday, SSHS will be in a different community each day with its lovable adoptables. They start Sunday at PetSmart at 2666 North Elston and wrap up at Dog-A-Holics in Lakeview on Saturday. Check here for the full schedule.
Tuesday, October 2
Join renown Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (CAAB) Patricia McConnell for “Are You Thinking What I’m Thinking?” Her presentation includes slides and videos that discuss problem solving, self-awareness and “thinking” in animals. The event will be at 6:30 at the Anti-Cruelty Society. Tickets are $35 and should be purchased online.
Thursday, October 4
Get the weekend started early at a Happy Hour Benefit for Feline Friends Veterinary Care Fund from 6 to 8 p.m. at Barrio Urban Taqueria at 714 West Diversey. The $20 donation includes appetizers and there will be a cash bar. RSVP to email@example.com.
Join Safe Humane Chicago for Diamonds in the Ruff at 7 p.m. at Salvage One at 1840 West Hubbard in Chicago. Tickets are $45 per person and $75 per couple and include appetizers, beer, wine and more. Purchase tickets online and check out auction items online.
Save-A-Pet will be hosting its first charity wine tasting and auction at the Westin in Wheeling starting at 6 p.m.. Tickets are $40 per person and the event is open only to those over 21-years-old. Come and meet some of the cats and dogs needing homes and learn more about Save-A-Pet. Purchase tickets online.
Friday, October 5 – Sunday October 7
Famous Fido Rescue & Adoption Center will be hosting the Andersonville Rescue Weekend with a variety of events through Sunday. Friday will feature adoption training from 4 to 7 p.m. at Famous Fido at 5430 N. Clark Street. On Saturday, local galleries and stores will open their doors for the Artists & Angels Rescue Walk featuring the rescues many homeless pets. Sunday will be a pet blessing and animal appreciation service at Unity Lutheran Church at 1212 West Balmoral at 10:15 a.m. with a brunch buffet at 11:30. Learn more online.
