Brighten up your look with bold, vibrant colors for Spring

Today is as good a time as any to venture deep into your wardrobe and begin pulling all your favorite items to the front of the closet. What?! You are in need of something to give your 2013 wardrobe a little punch? Well, how about adding some zing in the form of intense saturated color?

Bright, bold colors are available everywhere and priced to fit any budget right now. You ladies on a super tight budget don’t fret. Many of these items are already in your closet, perhaps mixed in with your spring or summer stuff.

Let’s start with the obvious…..handbags. The handbag is an extremely versatile accessory and let’s face it ladies, we don’t go anywhere without one. Check out this adorable berry colored hobo at Target.com. It’s a versatile and fun accessory that can be matched with say, jeans and a tunic. Remember, when pairing a colorful bag with your outfit, keep in mind proportion and of course occasion. For instance, a brightly colored patent clutch will give a nice contrast to your favorite LBD (little black dress).

Besides handbags, there are many other ways to use bright accessories to draw attention to your ensemble. Want to bring the eye up to your face? Try pairing a solid neutral blouse with a colorful bib necklace. This can be worn with a pencil skirt for a day at the office or a cute pair of shorts for a more casual look.

How about showcasing your hourglass figure? If you’re a dress girl, pair a bright belt placed at the smallest part of your waist with an a-line or full skirted dress like this polka dot beauty. This can be further accented with a colorful cardigan. Try BP at Nordstrom for a ton of color choices at a reasonable price.

Another popular item right now that comes in a slew of colors is the skinny jean. Try Tilly’s for a big selection. Match this with a longer and not too baggy tunic or cami & long cardigan to keep your look slim. In terms of shoes, tall boots area a great look because the boots fit so easily over the pants. It’s a flattering look that also gives you a bit of height.

Remember, you don’t want to be too matchy matchy. In your mother’s day (or maybe your grandmother) it was fashionable and even expected to match your handbag with your shoes. Well, in the spirit of fashion evolution, and with the utmost respect to the fashionistas of past years, shake it up a little.

Besides the examples here, shoes, bangles, hats, scarves and even sunglasses will do, but there is no need to limit your choices to accessories. So go ahead, put on your blue & white polka dot dress with that lemon yellow belt and funky red flats. After all, who doesn’t love a rainbow?
