There were a lot of upsets in the NFL in Week 8, as many favored teams went down to defeat to underdogs. Many of the teams that won as underdogs were led to victory by rookie players.
Biggest upsets in the NFL in Week 8
Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat Minnesota Vikings 36-17
On Thursday night, October 25, 2012, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Minnesota Vikings, 36-17, while being a 5.5 point underdog. Rookie RB Doug Martin from Boise State was the hero of the game, as he had 214 yards from scrimmage, and scored two TDs.
Indianapolis Colts beat Tennessee Titans 19-13 in OT
The Tennessee Titans were favored at home by 3.5 points over the Indianapolis Colts, but the Colts won the game, 19-13, in OT. Rookie QB Andrew Luck is already showing how good he is going to be.
Luck threw for 297 yards, and led the Colts to a late fourth quarter TD to tie the game, and then hit rookie RB Vick Ballard with a 16 yard TD pass in OT for the win.
Cleveland Browns beat San Diego Chargers 7-6
The San Diego Chargers opened the week as three point favorites over the Cleveland Browns, but Cleveland beat the Chargers, 7-6. Rookie RB Trent Richardson was the hero of the game, as he rushed for 122 yards, including a 26 yard TD run for the only touchdown of the game.
Miami Dolphins beat New York Jets 30-9
The New York Jets were favored by 2.5 points over the Miami Dolphins, but the Dolphins won this game as easy as you please, 30-9. After rookie QB Ryan Tannehill was injured early in the game, Matt Moore came in for the Dolphins and led the team to victory. By the end of the game, Jets fans were yelling loudly for Tim Tebow to play.
Atlanta Falcons beat Philadelphia Eagles 30-17
Even though the Atlanta Falcons were undefeated on the season going into this game, the Philadelphia Eagles were favored by 2.5 points at home. The Falcons stayed unbeaten on the season, as they easily beat the Eagles, 30-17. Matt Ryan threw three TDs for the Falcons.
Oakland Raiders beat Kansas City Chiefs 26-16
For some unknown reason, the Kansas City Chiefs opened the week as a 1.5 point favorite over the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders grabbed an early lead in this game, and never trailed, as they easily beat the Chiefs, 26-16. The Chiefs are probably the worst team in the NFL this season.
New York Giants beat Dallas Cowboys 29-24
The Dallas Cowboys opened the week as a one point favorite over the New York Giants, my favorite NFL team. By the time the game started, the Giants were favored 1.5 points. The smart money was right in this game, as the Giants won, 29-24.
The Giants jumped out to a 23-0 lead in this game, as Tony Romo kept turning the ball over. Dallas then stormed back to take a 24-23 lead in the third quarter. The Giants then kicked two field goals to take a 29-24 lead.
With 10 seconds left in the game, Dez Bryant made a spectacular 37 yard catch in the end zone for the apparent game winning TD. But instant replay showed that the tips of Bryant’s right fingers landed out of bounds before he came down with the catch, and Giants won what was a highly entertaining game.
