Has anyone ever accused you of something that wasn’t true? Maybe there was a small grain of truth in what they said, but they blew it way out of proportion and tried to make you feel really bad about yourself? Have you ever unintentionally made a mistake, but someone accused you of doing it on purpose? Did you ever take it to heart and wonder if maybe they were right, because there was a grain of truth in what they said, or maybe you were just afraid there was a grain of truth in what they said? Sometimes we do things that are wrong because we don’t know the rules, or the truth, and when we find out later that we did something wrong, we can have a lot of guilt about it. And then there are times that we truly did ignore our conscience, do something wrong, we regretted it and went to confession, but then we just can’t seem to let go of the guilt.
These words ring true for a lot of us. Sometimes these feelings begin in childhood with parents who over disciplined us as children, or didn’t believe us when we told the truth. As adults, we may have family members that hold a grudge and still do not forgive us long after the offense occurred. The residual guilt can linger for years.
Maybe we feel like others have condemned us, there’s nothing we can do to defend ourselves and we have no recourse except to pray. And that really is the truth. We can pray and ask for Saint Michael the Archangel to help defeat the feelings of guilt and condemnation, whether they are justified or not:
‘Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.’
The devil and evil spirits are real and as long as their negativity has a grip on us, we will never find true peace. That is why God gave us Saint Michael the Archangel, to help us break the devil’s grip on our hearts and break the residual or unjustified guilt that we just can’t seem to shake on our own. Saint Michael the Archangel has a supernatural power that has been granted to him by God and we can rely on him to strengthen us when we feel like we can’t deal with the negativity in our lives on our own.
The moment we decide to accept the fact that God loves us, He knows the whole truth about our lives and forgives us if we did do anything wrong, (as long as we are sorry for it), is the moment we allow goodness to overcome evil. We just need to remember to pray and ask for God’s help and He will send His angels to help us.
Jesus Christ came into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the whole world might be saved through him.
