Here’s a planet-by-planet guide to this week’s Zodiacal locales. Why planet-by-planet instead of sign-by-sign? The planetary guide describes the Zodiacal weather for the period so that you can exercise your will accordingly; a sign-by-sign guide is telling you what to wear!
The Sun – our essential self
The Sun will journey through its last leg of Virgo (Earth) this week, and on Saturday, September 22nd, at exactly 7:37 a.m., *PDT, will enter into the constellation of Libra, marking the Autumn Equinox.
Why is it called Equinox?
The word ‘equinox,’ is Latin and means ‘equal night; the Autumn and Spring Equinoxes are the two days of the year in which the day and night are equal-ish (I love “ish”) in length of time.
On the equinox, night and day are nearly exactly the same length – 12 hours – all over the world. This is the reason it’s called an “equinox”, derived from Latin, meaning “equal night”.
However, even if this is widely accepted, it isn’t entirely true. In reality equinoxes don’t have exactly 12 hours of daylight.
The September equinox occurs the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from north to south.
This happens either on September 22, 23, or 24 every year. On any other day of the year, the Earth’s axis tilts a little away from or towards the Sun. But on the two equinoxes, the Earth’s axis tilts neither away from nor towards the Sun, like the illustration shows.
A look at Libra
Astrologer, Isabel Hickey, describes the energy patterns of the signs like pure poetry; very Venusian (Venus rules Libra) :
Libra is represented by “high winds and line storms, followed by calm.” Diplomatic, energetic, authoritative, harmonious, and sociable are descriptors associated with this energy pattern.
Libra is the turning point in the evolutionary process. The nadir of selfness has been reached and in this sign, relationships involving cooperation are born. This is the ‘union’ or marriage sign of the zodiac, and the soul can no longer function in the ‘me’ consciousness. It has to become the ‘we’ consciousness.
Now the soul has to balance the world of appearance (the personality) with the inner world of reality (the soul). Venus is the ruler of this sign for only through love and cohesiveness can true union be attained.
On the surface is there is a diplomacy and sweetness, but beneath the velvet glove is a fist of iron. It’s hard for a Libran to believe they are dominating and self-willed, but it’s true.
Another gifted astrologer, Linda Goodman, says this about Libra:
The mission of Libra is to lead in a mental, aggressive, dynamic and idealistic manner. Libra’s gift is that love is beauty. Beauty to the ego is quite subjective, but to the universe, our beauty comes forth as we harmonize our energies to its song.
The lesson of Libra in love is that love is harmony. Co-operating with others is the key to the divine unions we desire and harmonizing with others is what beautiful music is made from.
The Moon this week – feeling nature
On Sunday, September 16, 2012, at around 7 a.m. (PDT), the Moon will be in harmony-loving, artistic Libra (Air). It will be a New Moon. New Moon’s indicate a time for beginnings.
If you were born during a New Moon, astrologer Myrna Lofthus, in A Spiritual Approach to Astrology, says:
You act instinctively to outside events and people. You operate in a spontaneous, unplanned way. You are magnetic, with Aries characteristics, and draw others to you. You have a lot of physical charm. There may be a lot of confusion in your life, but you like it that way. You may not like to be too organized. You may cause distress for others by unconsciously projecting your negative emotions.
From there it will move into intense, creative and healing Scorpio (Water) on Tuesday, 9/18, at 8 a.m.
On Thursday, 9/20, at around 11 a.m., the Moon will be in aspiring, expansive Sagittarius (Fire).
On the day of the Autumn Equinox, Saturday, at 2 p.m., the Moon will be in serious and responsible Capricorn (Earth). It will be a First Quarter Moon.
Mercury – communications
Mercury will leave Virgo and spend some time in Libra beginning on Sunday evening, 9/16, around 10 p.m. Esthetic senses (sense of what is beautiful) will be fussy for in Libra they’re highly developed.
Venus – values
Venus is still in theatrical Leo (Fire) this week, and she’s really sparring with Mars in a square that brings a love-hate dynamic between the two planets.
Passion and love may feel some conflict this week, and emotions need to be controlled. The Moon’s going to tangle with Venus, too, in its own square through Wednesday.
Meditation is a practice that can help us in every area of our lives, especially our emotional natures.
Meditation provides us with a place to rest our conscious mind and is an avenue of connecting with higher vibrations.
Check out the video for a great Chakra meditation. Chakra means ‘wheel’ and the chakras are centers within us that stimulate energy flow.
Mars – action
Mars is about halfway through the constellation of Scorpio, the sign that represents the secret forces of life. Scorpio energy is life or death; right or wrong; black or white; do or die; hurt or heal.
Jupiter – relationships
The planet of expansion that symbolizes how we reach out beyond ourselves and relate with others is still in Gemini (Air), where it can stretch freely and without restriction. Jupiter and the sign it rules, Sagittarius, does not like restriction of any kind.
If relations with others still seem a bit icy and cool, let them be….things will warm up as the temps outside chill down and draw us closer!
Cooler weather might be the reason why there are more Gemini births than any other zodiacal sign!
Saturn – responsibilities
Saturn is getting toward the end of its exaltation in Libra (Air), but will still be here another couple of weeks until October 5th.
“Saturn is exalted in Libra for it is through the sign of relationships that we grow in grace. If a person lived on a desert island by himself he would have no problems.
Only through patience, endurance, responsibility, and humility can we learn to relate to other people. Saturn demands cooperation, not competition.”
Uranus, Neptune and Pluto
The outer planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, remain at the doorway of their homes in the sky: Uranus in Aries (Fire); Neptune in its natural home, Pisces (Water); and Pluto in Capricorn (Earth).
Autumn is my favorite season! I love the crisp morning air, cooler days (thankfully, I can cook again!), and the gorgeous, vibrant colors in our northwestern landscape.
As the colors of the foliage change and the leaves make their final performance, they will be red last, before the leaf drops from the branch and leaves its earthly existence for a while.
The leaf will be its most passionate color just before it dies. Hmmm….curious.
Have a wonderful week. Our will is our life!
