Secular marriages aren’t the usual ruler for Christian marriages but the talk around the water cooler that left most speechless was the break-up of Hollywood couple Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito.
“When I heard I was like nobody cares about marriage anymore I love Rhea Perlman and that goes to show you that having a since of humor can’t save a marriage”, says Kelly of Romulus.
James of Inkster admitted, “Christians need more Godly examples of marriage but even after 30 years, it’s hard to imagine why break-up after so many years of commitment?!”
There is news that DeVito, star of the hit sitcom “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, may have been cheating and it’s said the star had a reputation of being a womanizer.
Cheaters usually all come from a similar background of satisfying selfish needs! When a spouse cheats the reason is usually because that person wasn’t getting what they “thought” they needed in the relationship and didn’t want to wait for God to repair things in them! According to the Bible, for this reason marrying a non-Christian is a recipe for certain disaster because a couple should be like-minded when it comes to matters of religious belief to make the marriage bond strong.
A lot can be learned by Christians who pay attention to secular marriages because witnessing what goes wrong in any marriage can be a good example of what not to do.
The Apostle Paul understood how difficult marriage would be and encouraged singlehood for followers but understood marriage could keep a person from sexual sin (1 Corinthians 7:8, 9).
When a “cheating spouse” interrupts the bond of marriage that person is in direct conflict with God’s instructions and primary intent for marriage.
“Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” Matthew 19:6.
Experts have plenty of advice on how to have a successful marriage things like, love, trust, humor honesty and commitment are always forefront. Breaking personal will everyday and choosing not to sin today speaks volumes.
Nothing is easy about marriage and just finding someone who makes you laugh and looks good on the arm just isn’t enough! Most work harder on the job than working on a marriage and many admit to taking spouses for granted and getting lost in the repetition of everyday life leading to ignoring an attention starved spouse.
According to a recent Bloomberg Report, Michigan divorce rates have fallen to 9.3%, this is about average compared to other states in the Midwest. Although the numbers are promising, the decline points to a struggling economy which makes trading one income for two dangerous.
The 67-year-old DeVito and 64-year-old Pearlman are separated right now but haven’t confirmed the road to divorce after 30 years of marriage.
Word is, the “Cheers” star, Perlman was seen running errands without her wedding ring, signifying to the world that the marriage could be over. It‘s said that even the stars closest friends had no clue of the trouble brewing between the pair.
