Clevelanders looking for a family-friendly and fun day trip and who love to shop until you drop, need to look no farther than the 46th annual Ohio Mart being held at historic Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens in Akron on Thursday, October 4 through Sunday, October 7. It is approximately a 45 minute drive from Cleveland.
Ohio Mart Taking place among the historic landscaped gardens and the grounds of Stan Hywet Hall amidst the scenery of vibrant autumn colors, Ohio Mart offers a wide variety of sights, sounds and activities that are sure to delight the whole family. More than 15,000 people are expected to be in attendance.
Ohio Mart will feature over 140 artisans and craftspeople offering a wide variety of items including one-of-a-kind sculptures, handcrafted furniture, jewelry, garden art and holiday items, some of which are Stan Hywet “exclusives”, only sold at Ohio Mart.
A new attraction this year is Vintage Finds and Curious Goods, a special sale offering items for purchase that are owned by Stan Hywet Hall. Items include antique furniture, textiles and decorative vintage items.
Make sure you make a stop at the artisan demonstration tent where you can watch the artists and learn about the artistic process.
Children’s activities include face painting, pumpkin painting and a stitchery project to make.
Thursday and Friday entertainment includes the Lady Hawise Renaissance Dancers. Entertainment on the weekend includes performances by Fergie and the Bog Dogs (Irish Band) on Saturday and the Miller South Street Drum Band on Sunday.
A wide variety of food will be available for purchase at Molly’s Cafe (lunch time items and desserts from local area bakeries) in addition to food items from Acme Catering and Totally Cooked. However, the big draw at each year’s Ohio Mart is their famous gingerbread and gingerbread cookies. They are expected to sell thousands of cookies. Visitors can also purchase prepared packaged cookies (from the same dough) to take home.
There will also be items for purchase at the estate’s Craft Shop, Curiosity Shop and Garden Committee Shop (floral arrangements from the Stan Hywet Gardens).
Also featured at Ohio Mart will be the Stitchery Showcase, a judged stitchery exhibit and display with 300 needlepoint pieces. The Stitchery Showcase will take place in the Manor house.
Hours for the Ohio Mart are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $8 for adults and $2 for youth. Parking at the Great Meadow at Stan Hywet Hall is $5.
