All the envelopes may have been opened at the 64th Annual Primetime Emmys but the red carpet was rolled out for another entertainment industry event on September 28, 2012. This time it will be in New York City. The 2012 DAMMY Awards announced their recipients for excellence in innovative digital and media asset management. A much deserved beneficiary, Steve Cronan, CEO and Founder of the 5th Kind, will be honored at Createasphere’s Digital Asset Management Conference and Exhibition.
Steve is so worthy of this honor. 5th Kind is working on global productions and infrastructure projects that are impacting the way that entertainment and enterprise approach digital assets management (DAM). The DAMMY of the Year gives special recognition to the innovative thinking and dedication to excellence that is propelling the digital asset management industry forward. Steve and 5th Kind represents the best of these qualities.
– Mary Yurkovic, manager of Createasphere’s DAM Conference
Like many starlets in Hollywood, the 5th Kind was not sitting coyly at the counter in a soda shop waiting to be discovered. Steve Cronan’s determination and “wonky” nature worked several years in perfecting the solution for digital asset and workflow management. Not only did he and his fellow founder, Matt Walters pulled together a “script to screen” platform; they shaped a revenue model for studio security, ancillary products and distribution.
If you have seen this summer’s blockbusters like The Avengers, Men in Black 3, Man of Steel, Ender’s Game, or any Marvel Entertainment film, then you know can imagine their task at hand. Wrangling vast amount of film footage, and green lighting all aspects of studio management in feature film process is daunting. Current projects include CloudAltas from WarnerBros Pictures.
The 5thKind team is in good company with other frontrunners: Barry Snyder, Co—Founder & Prinicipal MediaMine, LLC and Robin Rusch, CEO of BrandWizard, as well as Conde Nast. As Mr. Conan stated upon receiving the news, “I am honored to receive this award, and to be among the individuals and companies that were nominated. The DAMMY means a lot to 5th Kind, and we’ve worked really hard to not only create great products and services, but be actively involved within the film community to educate and evolve the industry. We feel privileged to be recognized by a jury of our peers and look forward to continuing our work with industry experts to push the advancement of asset management and workflow innovation.”
While the entertainment industry moves into high interactive an content driven product lines, many companies and venture capitalist are “banking” on what is being called “Silicon Beach”. According to the LA times, techies and venture capitalist are swooping up real estate along Venice Beach and Santa Monica. Google and Apple are no exception. For Google, the company developed a campus and Apple Is rumored to target a key market: television driven content plus creating a new product line iOS television set.
Primed for the expansion, 5thKind is ready for this opportunity. The collaboration between Matt Walters and Steve Cronan will prove to be a friend of many “Silicon Beach” entrepreneurs. 5th Kind.com launched its site where the company sees a bright future with the advent of an early growth company. Its financial mission is currently self-financed and recently began seeking growth capital. The company is headed in the right direction with licensing models in play for enterprise systems, weekly production packages for studios and production houses, as well as per user experience for the independent producer.
