Life Inc. is reporting today, September 24, 2012, that the top 10 crunchy snacks have been announced by YouGov BrandIndex. The list is derived from the daily polling of approximately 5,000 Americans, admittedly not a huge sampling but felt to be representative of the country.
It was once claimed that people hunted down crunchy snacks when they were irritated or angry. There’s just something so satisfying about that crunch as you grind and chew that calms you down. People who were feeling depressed or emotional, it was thought, opted for ice cream or other things soft and creamy.
Those claims were for events that triggered a snack response in people. Some people, though, just love salty, crunchy snacks and their mood or circumstance doesn’t matter.
The Snackpot is a web site that assigns signs, like Zodiac signs, to snackers. Here’s what they have to say about the “Chips Lover.”
“It’s difficult to get a read on a true Chips Lover. They are covert and purposefully noncommittal by nature. The Chips Sign can often be misinterpreted as having a crunchy attitude, but that’s not entirely the case. Sometimes they can just be oblivious to the emotions of others and appear unemotional themselves, but they will open up and share if only they are asked.
“They are the most independent of all the snack signs. They do not require the presence of others, nor do they shun company either. Understanding is key to finding love with a Chip Sign. Although signals and emotional reciprocation may not be abundant early on, it is there. Just don’t become salty towards them, because like the line at Garrett’s Popcorn, they are worth the wait.”
The site also mentions that the “Chips Lover” is compatible with oddball and organic snackers.
Here’s the list from the YouGov BrandIndex, in order. The most popular crunchy snack is, once again, Ritz. Surprised? I was. I thought Doritos would be No. 1, but the popular crunchy triangles came in at only No. 3.
- Orville Redenbacher
- Wheat Thins
