A new clip (embedded) from “Resident Evil: Retribution” has been released online. It features our favorite protagonist, Alice (Milla Jovovich), and Ada Wong (Li Binbing) fighting two Axemen.
Ada Wong is a survivor who is taken captive by Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) as she hunts Alice. Li won the role after her first audition, and prepared for the film by watching “Resident Evil: Degeneration,” which is a CG animated feature from 2008.
Continuing the story of Alice (again played by Milla Jovovich), this is the fifth film in the series of “Resident Evil” movies, which began in 2002 with the film “Resident Evil,” followed by “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” (2004), “Resident Evil: Extinction” (2007), and “Resident Evil: Afterlife” (2010).
When last we saw Alice, at the end of “Afterlife,” a fleet of Umbrella Corporation aircraft led by Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), who had been thought to be missing since the events of “Resident Evil: Apocalypse,” approached a tanker full of survivors, including Alice, Claire and Chris.
Ali Larter (Claire Redfield), Wentworth Miller (Chris Redfield) and Spencer Locke (K-Mart) will not return for the new film; their absence will be explained by saying they have all been captured by Umbrella Corporation.
Here’s “Retribution’s” synopsis:
“The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. Meanwhile, Alice (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex.
“Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a ‘mind-blowing’ revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. “
Aside from Jovovich and Li, others appearing in the new installment include Sienna Guillory, Colin Salmon, Shawn Roberts, Boris Kodjoe, Johann Urb, Oded Fehr, and Kevin Durand.
One more character will return from the first movie: Rain Ocampo, and actress Michelle Rodriguez. Ocampo was killed off in the first movie, but writer / director Paul W. S. Anderson has been trying to get Rodriguez back in the series for years.
To do so, Anderson plays the card that was played in the “Alien” series. He clones Ocampo. In fact, Rodriguez will play two clones of Rain Ocampo, one “good” and one “bad.”
“Resident Evil” Retribution” hits 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on Sept. 14.
