It is true, is it not, that Americans have a need for celebrities to follow? These people don’t necessarily have to be noteworthy or talented in any way. They just need to be somebody who’s every move we can watch and talk endlessly about. Unlike Britain, America does not have a Royal Family to follow. So surrogate royalty is assigned via the media. Unlike Britain, however, when we get bored of one member of our royalty, we can always wait for the next.
Remember Paris Hilton? Whatever happened to her? Why isn’t she making headlines like she used to? Doesn’t anybody care what dress she wore or why she’s been arrested this time? And what about the Kardashians? Could it be that the whole Kardashian clan is one breath away from over exposure, and will likely fade away soon? That said, America is ready for its next royal celebrity to follow. It seems she has arrived in the form of Honey Boo Boo, the star of TLC network’s ratings gold mine, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.” To celebrate her arrival on the Reality TV scene, let’s do a simple, 3 card past/present/future tarot card reading for her.
Past: The card that has come up here is the queen of swords. It is easy to imagine that this card refers to her mother, Mama June. She knows a good opportunity when it comes along. Does she not? How many other southern families can you think of with their own highly rated reality TV shows? This woman knows a good thing when she sees it. She figured this out, no doubt, when her child was on “Toddlers and Tiaras,” the show from which their own show is a spin off. The queen of swords represents somebody who is direct, honest, open, and unafraid. This is easy to imagine of this woman who has opened her life to a viewing public of millions.
Present: The card that has come here is the sun. It is not hard to figure out what this card is all about. The sun card speaks to us of having out moment of glory and being the center of attention. This is a no-brainer. Of course that is what her life is about right now. She’s a young kid with her own TV show! So yes, for however long she remains in the spotlight, she is sure to enjoy the attention she gets.
Future: The card that has come up here is the tower. This is a little worrisome. The tower represents sudden and unexpected changes. Things come crashing to the ground. Nature rights itself. That which was never meant to be falls away.
What does this suggest? It suggests that little Honey Boo Boo should enjoy her fame now, for it is not likely to last. She’s cute now. She’s fun to watch now. But how long will it be until the public grows tired of her? Where will she be ten years from now? Twenty years from now? Suppose The View’s Joy Behar’s prediction comes true that “She’s going to be a fat kid; she’s going to grow up to be a big fat woman. “ Will the world still love her?
How long will it be until the next big, “can’t live without” celebrity comes along? Will Honey Boo Boo be remembered as a onetime cute kid when she is the subject of a “Where are they now?” piece? In twenty years, she will be a piece of nostalgia from the early part of the 2010’s. “Remember that show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo?” “Oh yeah. I remember that. Whatever happened to that kid?” She will be forgotten. She will be remembered. Pictures of her adult self will surface. People will say, “Wow! That’s what she looks like now!”
She will move on from her days of a child star. She will have a family, a career, a life that is separate from her moments in the sun. In interviews twenty years from now, she will remember these couple of years fondly, but have no regrets putting them behind her for a simpler life.
