Things are certainly starting to heat up at “666 Park Avenue.” Week 2’s episode “Murmurations” aired on Oct. 7 and stories quickly intensified as a new one was added.
Louise is still in the hospital following her elevator accident. She asked her new assistant Alexis (the same Alexis her husband Brian has been ogling from his window) to get her some things from home. Alexis made herself a set of keys and confronts Brian in the shower. What followed was left up to the imagination, but you get the idea.
At a cocktail party in the Dorans’ apartment, we meet Danielle Tyler, a lady looking for love. She tells Gavin about a date, so he tells her he will help her out by making her a reservation at a fine restaurant to “stack the deck” in her favor. Her date doesn’t show but, miraculously, Gavin is there to introduce her to someone else.
Danielle and the date end up in bed, but the date turns out to be married. Long story short, the guy winds up dead and Gavin ends up consoling Danielle, telling her he doesn’t blame her at all. Seems she’s been in this position more than a few times before. Apparently, it’s her price to pay for staying forever young and beautiful.
Keeping up with Jane and Henry, we find Jane attempting to get rid of a murmuration of starlings she discovered in the wall of an apartment that was just vacated last week by a gentleman whose wife committed suicide for the second time as he paid his price to Gavin. Jane hires an exterminator.
Having warned Jane to leave the birds alone, Nona, the building’s teenage thief, comes upon the exterminator breaking down the basement wall at Jane’s request. She steals his lucky rabbit’s foot and gets a flash of his coming death, which happens exactly as seen by Nona. We now have a psychic on board.
In the middle of the night, Jane remembers she left clothes in the dryer. As she’s getting her clothes, she finds the door in the basement open and walks into an apparent murder scene from the 1950s. As usual, she wakes up in her bed as waking from a dream, but the clothes are neatly folded in the laundry basket right next to her.
Henry discovers information about a building Gavin wants to purchase but can’t tell him due to confidentiality laws. Yes, it was a setup, a test by Gavin for a yet unknown reason. Henry passed.
At a dinner in Jane and Henry’s apartment, Gavin and Olivia gently pry into Jane and Henry’s wedding plans. We learn that Jane and Henry have been together for almost five years.
Jane dream walks through the door in the basement yet again, ending up in the same murder scene from the 1950s, but this time Danielle Tyler is there. Jane wakes up in her bed as if from a bad dream once again. Do you see a pattern forming here?
At the end of the episode, as Jane is asking the doorman to help her find a new exterminator, Gavin tells Jane to leave the starlings alone as they’re really not bothering anyone. Jane agrees.
Gavin tells her to go down and “clean up the mess in the basement.” Jane goes to the basement and looks through the hole in the partially demolished wall left by the exterminator. The last time we see Jane, someone or something has reached out and grabbed her.
In a theme that I feel will become a standard at “666 Park Avenue,” a few questions were answered and many more were posed.
What’s up with Jane’s dream sequences? Why is Gavin toying with her? Last week, he said he wanted to get at Henry through Jane, but he seems to be doing a great job on Henry by himself. And why does Gavin need a murderer in the Danielle story? He’s obviously perfectly capable of doing the job.
The quick preview of next week’s episode didn’t seem to solve much of anything, but that’s the tease. We’ll just have to watch to find out about more of the strange “stuff” happening at the Drake.
