For the last six years the Fairfax Surf Shop has put together the Fairfax SkateFest. The SkateFest is an annual three day skate contest hosted by the Wakefield Skatepark in Northern Virginia. The proceeds from the event are donated to the Childrens National Medical Center.
So far they have raised over $25,000 for this worth while cause. For the second year in a row the DC Wheels team has put on a mid-contest demo. This years stars D.C legends Hojin Chang, Adam Graham, Brian Tucci, Jimmie Palintier and Darren Harper. D.C Wheels is a non-profit organization designed to benefit the overshadowing of stereotypes that surrounds skateboarding by promoting a healthy lifestyle. It’s currently being ran by Lisa David head mom in charge of Infected Skateboards. The Infected team entered the contest along with the Fairfax Surfshop team, the guys from the Charmcity Skatepark, Pyramid Skateboards, Roll Skateshop, One Skateboards, Convoy Skateboards, Word Clothing, PURE Skateshop and Torx Trucks along with many other shop teams and individuals who came to rip.
The locals killed the large permanent park located in the court. Notable destruction was Word rider Isaiah Rodriguez’s switch bigspin over the big box, Infected ripper Matthew Camacho’s 360 ollie flip up the euro, Charmcity Skatepark’s KDN Maxwell’s nollie heels and backside 360’s over the big pyramid and everything the super stylish Pyramid rider Micah Wu did.
The small portable course was dominated by Word Clothing’s Zach Gillespy with his big backside three’s and bigflip’s to flat. Green Trucks rider Kyle Flegel also ruled the small tp with nolly big heels and full cab flips.
One Skateboard’s AJ Kohn returned for the second year to MC the event. It’s always great to have an MC that actually loves skateboarding and has been around the block a few times. To re-cap, the event was great. Skatefest raised alot of money for a good cause and everyone had a good time!
